At Property Turkey we always advise our clients to use a solicitor in Turkey when buying a home in Turkey. The simple reason being – it saves you a ton of time, and makes your purchase process smooth and stress free.

Should I use a solicitor to buy property in Turkey?

Throughout our years of experience in the Turkish real estate market, we have found that almost all of the people who have found themselves victims of scams or bad property deals, neglected to use a registered Turkish solicitor to complete their purchase. Buying a property is a big investment, why risk it by trying to cut corners and save a tiny amount of money?

The average cost of a solicitors services in Turkey is £1,000, but the value of this is immeasurable. Using a solicitor will ensure your property purchase does not run into trouble; the solicitor will check things such as outstanding charges against the property; whether the current owner is selling fair; and other checks to ensure safe transfer of the property to your name.

During almost two decades of experience in the Turkish real estate market, we have worked with a number of professional and experienced solicitors. You can also find English speaking and highly qualified Turkish solicitors on the British Consulate website.

What does a solicitor do in the Turkish property process?

We recommend our clients grant full power of attorney to the solicitor to complete the property purchase on your behalf. This saves you a lot of time and endless trips back and forth to Turkey.

If you provide the solicitor with power of attorney, the solicitor will check the following:

1. The solicitor will ensure that the title is clean, and check for any charges against the title and proper ISKAN (habitation certificate).

2. The solicitor will draft, finalise, and sign the approved property purchase contract on your behalf.

3. Convert the title to your name and finalise all of the property purchase at the local title deed office on your behalf.

Hiring a solicitor and giving power of attorney to complete the Turkish real estate purchase on your behalf is a good idea. The whole process of purchasing a property in Turkey can take several weeks to complete, your appointed solicitor will ensure that you don’t have to take needless trips back to Turkey in order to complete your purchase.
